The Business of Magic BY Richard Osterlind

Mr. Osterlind recently released an ebook “The Business of Magic” about working in the corporate market as a mystery entertainer.Like many others here, I have used Mr. Osterlind’s effects and performance ideas, and they have all been more than worth the money spent to obtain them.In this ebook, there is no coaching on how to make the best brochure, or video…there are no effects to speak of, yet the words upon the digital page are priceless to the professional, semi-pro, or hobbyist en-route to doing paid performances for the corporate audience. As Mr. Osterlind points out, the advice given works for any market, and indeed any type of variety entertainer will find gold within this electronic booklet.I won’t get into the contents too much, so as not to ruin it for those fortunate enough to purchase it, and also out of respect for Osterlind Mysteries’ propriety, but I will give a “nutshell” synopsis to the best of my ability.Just so you know, my views come from a full time professional, though not near as experienced as the author.Mr. Osterlind covers many subjects, and as always with his work, the real beauty lies “between the lines”. There were several times when I was reading along, enjoying myself, when one sentence would pop out of nowhere and hit me like a truck. If you are looking for new effects, check out Mr. Osterlind’s other books or DVDs, or, you can check out legions of other cool stuff on the market these days.If you want to know the secrets of polishing yourself and your persona to the point that you can legitimately demand the type of fees you want, then this book will flesh out a lot of secrets that would take most performers years of experience to learn. On a final note, as a bonus, Mr. Osterlind provides us with a very humorous chapter on travelling. It was very refreshing to experience Richard’s sense of humor without any effects, and I found myself laughing out loud several times. Those who travel on a regular basis will slap their knees a couple of times while reading this final chapter. All in all, a wonderful ebook. I for one have been looking forward to Mr. Osterlind’s advice and guidance about his 35+ years of experience as a mystery entertainer regarding the business side of his career. Here he has provided us with tips, pointers, and philosophies that should make all who read “The Business of Magic” better professional performers.Highly Recommended,DMp.s. It can be noted that I very rarely review items on this or any other board, due to time restrictions that come with developing my own career. However, I didn’t want this book to go unnoticed by those who could truly benefit from it.
